It is time for Nigerian nurses to really consider uniform and stop this obsession with white. The rate at which every Tom, Dick and Harry uses traditional nurses white from chew, canteen staff and now hawkers of trado-herbal preparation is becoming alarming. We are also to be blamed for some of these anomaly we see in the community. Clear cut simple instructions of not wearing uniform outside the hospital a lot of nurses find it difficult to abide with. Now that everybody is using it for it’s symbolic value we are all crying out to National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives and to the regulatory body, that is Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria to act.
Most countries have taken to the use of scrub and only at their duty post. It is time we think differently from what we are used to doing.
NANNM in conjunction with the Council as the professional body and regulatory body should lunch a campaign to enlighten the public on who a nurse really is.
In the meantime, if you see something wrong that concern nursing, please say something to the nearest body of NANNM or State Nursing Council committee.
