{ A MUST KNOW} Hazards of The Profession, NURSING

Nursing, like all other professions, has its own hazards, especially in healthcare delivery institutions where nurses often mix and mingle with people carrying infectious diseases, and with toxic, harmful, or potentially hazardous compounds, solutions, and medications. Such situations make it imperative for practitioners to comply with strict and standardised guidelines to avoid not only contracting diseases but also all other dangers they are often exposed, to especially by radiation, accidental needles sticks, chemicals used to sterilize instruments, and anaesthetics.

Nurses, according to some reputable literatures on the profession, are also vulnerable to back injury when moving patients, shocks from electrical equipment, and hazards posed by compressed gases, registered nurses may also suffer emotional strain from caring for patients suffering unrelieved intense pain, close personal contact with patients’ families, the need to make critical decisions, and ethical dilemmas and concerns.
